Valentine's Day Every Day
What's up with Valentine's Day? Is it just another excuse
to spend money or is there some real meaning that affects
our relationship with our loved one?
For 19 years Valentine's Day didn't mean much to me, other
than both my husband (ex-husband now) and I would both say
let's not get each other anything this year (again), no money,
kids need, rather have or do -- and on and on -- Any excuse
to avoid the real issue.
Valentine's Day is the day to celebrate LOVE.
It should be a beautiful day taken out of the regular rat
race, away from friends, and to spend with the one you love.
Just as Christmas is for children, Valentine's Day should
be for Lovers.
This year will be a very special Valentine's Day for me because
it is the first year in many that I am "in love".
It's the first year I want to celebrate that fact and do so
by doing something special for Valentine's Day. I can't wait
to see what my love is doing for me because I know it will
have very special meaning.
However, I caution everyone in a long-time relationship or
marriage to not neglect Valentine's Day. It adds up. (or should
I say subtracts from your relationship). I remember my ex
asking me what I wanted for V-day, and I'd just say "nothing"
-- while wishing that he'd just surprise me and do something
different and special, something romantic. It didn't happen.
And it didn't happen. And I finally decided it wasn't going
to happen. And then I didn't WANT it to happen any longer.
However, if it was only that one day that your lover does
something really special for you, that won't cut it either.
I think Valentine's Day should be celebrated in a small way
every day. You should show that special someone you love them
by the little 'gifts' and actions you do for them. Maybe a
love note in their lunch box or on their pillow when they
wake up. Maybe a phone call in the middle of the day when
they don't expect it, just to tell them you love them. Maybe
a single rose for no reason, other than to show you care.
There are so very many little ways to show your love to that
special someone, and it doesn't have to cost much money. It
only takes a little thought and some creative actions on your
part.
So take this Valentine's Day to be creative, and then continue
to be creative every day and keep your love alive, fresh and
growing.
