Career Corner :: Tips To Help You Improve Your Job Interview Presentation

Be on time for your interview.

Research the company and the position if possible, as well as the people you will meet with at the interview. Review your work experiences. Be ready to support past career accomplishments with specific information targeted towards the needs of the company.

Give the interviewer a firm handshake, even if the interviewer is a woman and you are a man. Nobody likes a limp handshake but, do not take the person's hand off . While shaking the interviewers hand, introduce yourself keeping eye contact at all times.

During the interview you should:
i. Be enthusiastic and prepared
ii. Be confident and sell your skills
iii. Listen carefully and be interesting

During the interview, the interviewer will try to determine if you have the following traits:
i. Achiever
ii. Productive
iii. Self-starter
iv. Team player
v. Quick Learner
vi. Easy Going
vii. Dependable
viii. Stable
ix. Responsible

Maintain eye contact with your interviewer. Communicate that you are interested in the position. Avoid negative comments about past or current employers.
Try to relate your answers to the interviewer and his or her company. Focus on achievements and skills that are relevant to the position. Speak clearly. Do not mumble your words. It portrays a lack of confidence. Encourage the interviewer to share information about the company.

Ask the interviewer questions. Even if he/she does not ask you "Do you have
any questions," ask anyway. Be sure to thank the interviewer for his/her time.
