Owner Update “Question of The Month”
Q: Who is being served on TMHA’s Housing Choice
Voucher Program?
A. Currently 540 families are being subsidized on the
program, meaning that they are under active lease, and TMHA is
sending the owner some amount of subsidy on their behalf.
Another 100 families are somewhere in the “pipeline” meaning
that they have been pulled off the waiting list and are
completing applications or have been issued a Voucher and are
“on the street” looking for housing.
In addition to the families above, another 402 families are
signed up on the waiting list and are waiting for TMHA to pull
their names and start the full application process. As you can
see, we deal with many families.
Those being served fall into the following categories. The
percent figure is the approximate portion of our total assisted
families.

Response of Rent Reasonableness Surveys from the September Owner
Update
A big thank you to the 18 owners / managers who responded to our
appeal to provide us information regarding their non
Voucher-assisted rental units for our Rent Reasonableness
program. We have already sent or will soon send these responders
a car wash coupon for each acceptable survey.
It’s not too late to participate! We will still accept
surveys and will still send a thank-you car wash coupon for your
participation. We especially need zero (0), 3 BR, and 4 BR
units. We also could use more units from the northern and
southern ends of the county in all bedroom sizes.
Volunteers Needed to Assist at New Homeless Shelter
The Friends of The Homeless, the organization that has worked so
hard to establish the first ever homeless shelter here in
Tuscarawas County, is currently seeking volunteers to help man
the shelter. Interacting with and assisting persons who are
residing in the shelter, answering the telephone, and helping to
manage the donations coming into the shelter are just a few of
the ways that volunteers can be of service. Volunteers are
needed at about all the times the shelter is operating so an
ample supply of volunteers are being sought. The volunteers will
be trained and training sessions are currently being scheduled
for times in October. In order to inquire about volunteer
opportunities or for more information, please contact the
Shelter Director, Mike Koenig at (330) 602-6100 at Extension #
202.
